250 people of all ages packed into the Caroline Bay Hall today for a chance to hear New Zealand’s premier brass band.
The 26 strong New Zealand Army Band played a bit of swing, a bit of traditional march and a touch of the mod including the theme tune from Austin Powers. It was great way to kick of the Festival
Overnight rain meant transferring the free concert to the Bay Hall, but the intimate venue created a terrific atmosphere as the Band leaders gave us an insight into the workings of the group and their many opportunities to perform all over the world.
An appreciative audience were treated to numbers such as ‘Singin’ in the Rain’, ‘Hine e Hine’ and ‘Pokarekare Ana’.
The Timaru Festival of Roses officially opens on Friday, but the New Zealand Army Band was the perfect way to begin the 10 day event-packed programme.
